My Classes

After logging in to the Next Step Site, the My Classes Section will be available. In the My Classes you will find the following resources for each class in the Next Step Program:

  • Video
  • Facilitator Guide
  • Student Worksheet
  • Student Handouts (if any)
  • Key Takeaways
  • Teacher’s Guide
  • PowerPoint
  • Quiz

The Next Step Program is designed to show the videos and the Teacher facilitate the class using the Facilitator Guide. Each class with the exception of Sphere of Influence, has a Student Worksheet to be given to students to use for the in-class exercises. In the Sphere of Influence class, the Student Handouts serve as the Student Worksheets for that class. This model allows the Teacher to facilitate the class with minimum preparation.

Order of Classes

A Teacher can go through the program in any order they prefer. However, we recommend starting with the “I Believe” Class because it focuses on identifying the student’s beliefs and values.

Teaching Option #1 - Video Model

Teacher downloads the Facilitator Guide, Student Worksheets, Key Takeaways, Student Handouts and Quiz from the Next Step Website found in the section for that Class.

Teacher makes copies for the students – Student Worksheets, Student Handouts, Quiz.

The Key Takeaways can be used by the Teacher as key points to emphasize during the class or as a handout for the students.

We suggest prior to the first time facilitating the class, the Teacher watch the video using the Facilitator Guide as a “dry run” for the class. After the initial class, there will be no need to do any additional prep work to facilitate the class other than make the necessary copies.

Facilitator Guides

This document contains everything the Teacher needs to facilitate the class. It shows how long the video is, where to stop and start the video for the student exercises, how long to allow for each exercise, key answers to each exercise and when to give out the class handouts.

Student Worksheets

These should be provided to students prior to starting video. It has the various exercises that will be used during the class and spaces for them to write their answers. It would be helpful for students to have small notebook to keep the worksheets and any handouts from each class.

Handouts

These documents are to be given to the students at the time designated in the facilitator Guide. They either support a student exercise or emphasize key points of the class.

Key Takeaways

This document lists the “Key Takeaways / Key Points” from the class that should be emphasized. The Teacher can use it as a review at the end of class or make copies and give to students after class to keep in their notebook.

Quiz

This is used as a handout for the students as a 4-5 question self-graded review of the class. The teacher can share the correct answers after the students take the short quiz and students can self-grade their effort. The quizzes contain only 4-5 multiple choice questions. The teacher can choose to show the Quiz questions on the screen or give them to students as a handout.

Teaching Option #2 - Teacher-Led Model

This model will require the teacher to go through the normal prep time to be adequately prepared to teach the material. We do not suggest considering this option until you have facilitated the classes multiple times using the Video Model.

The “I Believe” class is not available to be Teacher-led. It must be facilitated using the Video Model.

Download the Teacher Guide, Student Worksheets, Key Takeaways, Student Handouts and Quiz from the Next Step Website found in the section for that Class.

Make copies for the students – Student Worksheets, Student Handouts, Quiz.

The Key Takeaways can be used by the Teacher as key points to emphasize during the class or as a handout for the students.

Teacher Guide

Each class has a Teachers Guide that provides the narrative for a teacher to teach the class. Any content shown in red indicates that content is shown on the power point slides that are found for each class. All aspects of the delivery of the class must still be used when the Teacher Taught” model is used – Student Worksheets, Handouts, Key Takeaways and Quiz.

PowerPoint Slides

Each class has Power Point slides for the teachers to utilize when the “Teacher Taught” model is used.

Etiquette Exercises

These exercises can be downloaded from the site and require approximately 10 minutes to do. Check in the instructions to see if any accessories are needed for the exercise.

Etiquette exercises should be done at a separate time from the video sessions.

Comprehension & Application Test (C&A Test)

After completing all of the Next Step classes, the Teacher should download the C&A Test and administer it to the students. This can be found on the My Account page under Course Completion. There are 12 questions that combine reviewing the student’s comprehension and application of what they learned from the program. Each question is worth 8.3 points. The teacher can also allow partial credit on questions where there are multiple answers required such as – list 5 things….

Completion Certificate

The Teacher can download the Next Step Certificate from the My Account page under Course Completion and save it in a file. They can then personalize each Certificate for Students who receive a minimum of 70% on the C & A Test.
